Rodeo Clowns Band

Its July already... We start the month of with two weekend spots as a duo at Piacere Restaurant in San Carlos. Marla will be joining me on July 9 and I'm not sure about this Saturday, because I just got the call for July 3. We are also back at Nick's at Rockway/Pacifica. This place is awesome, it has a great crowd, a good stage and an ocean view for everyone, even from the stage! They have one of the best crab sandwiches around and also have a hotel so you can make it a weekend of it, if the weather and the waves look good. We are also returning o the Italian Festival for the 3rd year in a row. This year I am also managing stage #2 and have put together a pretty good line-up of musicians. More information about whats going on at stage 2 is available in a previous post. that I will be updating shortly.

I also got a call from the Pioneer Saloon Sunday Jam band to sit in for Bundy Brown for the day on guitar, on Sunday July 11th. Should be a lot of fun!

Its almost officially summer again and the Rodeo Clowns Band is rolling right along with provate parties, fundraisers and we continue to play at Foley's, Astaria and La Barca. We are finally making it back to Woodside on June 12th to do a night at the Pioneer Saloon which is a cool little place. We also are participating in a Fundraiser for the Festa Foundation organization that puts on the Italian Festival. If you can please come out and support the cause, we would really appreciate that. Last but certainly not least, I am back at Piacere Restaurant in San Carlos on Friday, June 18th and will be joined by Erica Lee on vocals. She used to sing with us and now has her own band that is doing very well.

Another busy month for us. We'll up in the city at Johnny Foley's playing as a trio on Wednesday, 5/5. We had a lot of fun the last time and we covered several of our original songs. I think this will be a good venue to start showcasing our originals. I am playing 3 times this month at Astaria. On Monday 5/17 there will be a wine tasting event and appetizers will also be provided. Thursdays at Astaria are a lot of fun for me. I am able to dip into some additional acoustic songs that I know. Marla will be joining me at Piacere at the end of the month. Piacere is an intimate venue and its been a lot of fun performing there. Please come on out and enjoy the evening with us!

Happy New Years everyone! We are off to another great start for 2010. This Saturday we are back at La Barca's playing as a trio. Then on January 9th we'll be playing as a duo at Piacere Restaurant in San Carlos. This will be our first of two appearances there this month. On January 30th, we are back at the IBL Crab Feed in Pacifica, which is the best crab feed I have ever been to. If you like crab, this the place to go, and the money goes to a good cause.

This month we have two special events which are both outdoors. On Wednesday July 22nd we are playing Redwood City's Music in the Park series from 6 PM - 8 PM. (Corner of King & Hopkins, See driving directions). Be sure to get there early for this one. We are also booked again at the San Mateo Italian Festival on July 26th, from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM. This was our best gig in 2008. (Stage located at B St. & Baldwin) I hope everyone can make this one again!

Another interesting month for us. Scot and I will perform as a duo at the Seahorse Saloon in Pacifica which is where we live. The following weekend we are at Nick's @ Rockaway which is always a fun evening. There is a restaurant and a hotel with very reasonable prices. Should be a fun weekend. I'll do a Sunday brunch if we can get enough people together. =)

I am going to be hosting the Open Mic at O'Neill's Irish Pub in San Mateo on December 3rd, from 7 PM - 10 PM. Its a Sunday which is the normal day that Open Mic's occur at O'Neill's.

It is also Tara Phillip's birthday so we are going to be featuring her singing. She'll be performing with her new band and we'll all be playing songs that we have played together over the last year and a couple of months. For the sake of posterity, I have added a picture of Tara singing with the original lineup (View image) at one of our early O'Neill's gigs.

We went up the Maggie McGarries a couple weeks ago and we like it. There is a stage so everyone can see and plenty of room to dance. Also a friend and colleague of mine by the name of John Joyce works there. This Pub is pretty new and I haven't been able to find a web site for it. Its located at 1353 Grant Avenue, San Francisco.

Nov. 8 (Wednesday) - Johnny Foley's Irish Pub 9:30 PM - 12:30 AM. Love this place. Always gets a good crowd.

Nov. 22 (Wednesday) - Johnny Foley's Irish Pub 9:30 PM - 12:30 AM. This is the first time we are playing twice in a month at Johnny Foley's. The properietor told me that this is normally a busy night, because it is the night before Thanksgiving. Looking forward to playing. People are always in a good mood and it makes the gig a little better than usual. Can't wait.

A couple of additional comments. We are currently booking 3-4 nights per month. If we play too much it becomes all-consuming for us. Last, it looks like we got the Irish Pubs pretty well covered. Irish Pubs are wonderful destinations for an evening.

I'll being playing kinda solo Wednesday night at the No. 1 Broadway.

I remember this place was happenning on weekends back in the 90's when I lived in Santa Cruz. Lots of dancing and always really good live dance music. I'll be playing from 9 PM - 12 AM with bassist Scot Larsen, who has been playing a lot with us recently.

Here is the press release style notification that I sent to Lara Price who is a great musician herself and who is handling booking for the wednesday evenings.

We have been doing an Acoustic Sunday at O'Niell's for 2+ years now, on the first Sunday of the month. It has grown from two performers, Pete and I, and a handful of friends, to a good group of people who are both musicians and people that enjoy live music.

I am excited to say that the Blue Chalk in Palo Alto is interested in seeing if we can get something going on Sundays as well. There has always been a pretty strong musical scene in Palo Alto. Its just far enough away that you don't get a lot of overlap between the musicians in San Mateo and Palo Alto.

On Monday evening, I posted a notice on Craig's List that we will be hosting an Open Mic at the Blue Chalk in Palo Alto. I'm pleased to say that I have already heard from two musicians that plan on coming by and sharing their music with us. I look forward to making more friends, meeting new musicians and helping to bring back live music to the night spots in our area.
