Review: Open Mic #2/Blue Chalk

Had a great evening at the second Open Mic at the Blue Chalk. We had a lot of good musicians show up and perform. Thanks to...

Mike for bringing his Mandolin and sitting in on several songs with us. It gave the music a unique acoustic sound. Mike and Donnie also did a great Cajun style song "Eiko"

Tara belted out several songs with Donnie backing her up on guitar. Its always a treat to hear her sing.

A lady whose name escaped me came up and played some beautiful songs on the recorder and on the Lute (sp?). Her music had Celtic influences and also reminded me of a Renaissance fair.

James and Chris Morrison played several cool sounding originals. Chris told me that he has recorded a lot of his music. He also has his own website: CSMorrison.com

Kyle got up there and sang several originals that he normally performs with his band "Crashing Sun" accompanied by Donnie. The songs were mellw yet very powerful and colored by occasional clever and unexpected chord progressions.

Dave snuck in there with a very polished chord melody that sounded good and was well received.

Adam Tuttle came by and picked up his credit card that he had left the previous evening andd brough his guitar. He played a couple of covers and an interesting original song

We played both of our originals early on and then wrapped up the evening with several of our best cover songs.

All in all it was a great evening with a lot of solid performances by some talented musicians.
